Choral Union Holiday concert nears The 125-voice Elgin Choral Union will present its annual Christmas concert, designed and priced to appeal to families of all ages, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Elgin Community College's Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive. Maestro Andrew Lewis will lead the audience on a musical journey through time, featuring works from the Renaissance through the Baroque eras to the contemporary age, including the Fox Valley favorite, "This Christmastide," written by English composer Donald Fraser, who briefly resided in the Fox Valley. Favorite traditional carols are included, as well as an audience sing-along. There also will be a selection from choral music's latest wunderkind, Eric Whitacre, the haunting "Lux Aurumque." Accompanying the Choral Union will be brass players from the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, and ECU accompanist Jon Warfel on organ and piano. For tickets, call (847)-622-0300. The Choral Union is an In-Residence Ensemble at the ECC Performing Arts Institute, and its members are drawn from more than 30 communities. The chorus is celebrating its 61st year, making it the oldest continuously operating arts group in the western suburbs.
